Mini Wedding Cakes
Still looking for stunning centerpieces? Can’t afford to spend hundreds more? How about having mini wedding cakes as centerpieces?!
I had heard of this before, but always assumed it was quite expensive. But I was wrong! While reading posts on a wedding forum I came across a thread about mini wedding cakes for centerpieces. One Bride-to-Be liked the idea so much she called her bakery to see what it would cost. Here is what she posted:
Just got off of the phone with my bakery! I love this idea, with a cake on each table as the centerpiece, surrounded by candles and rose petals. I will have around 13 tables at the wedding, total cost for a 6 inch double cake on each table is $181.74. Each cake feeds 12 people! Then I would cut down the original wedding cake by 1 tier to just a 2 tier cake (since we will not need as much)...that will cost only $49.98 (6 inch/9inch). So total for the cakes would be $232.72! This is totally doable! Seeing that the original wedding cake was about the same price! I spoke with [my fiance] and he loves the idea as well as my mom (who is paying for it)! Plus it is so unique!
Immediately I thought of fun and creative things couples could do with their edible centerpieces:
* Each cake can be a different flavor. You could have a list on each table with what flavor is on each table. When it’s time for cake you could have your DJ encourage everyone to pick a flavor to try. This would be a great way to get people up and mingling.
- Each cake can be a different color or look all-together. If you are anything like me, (I’m indecisive and hate to chose one look/option) this would be perfect! You could pull out your wedding colors and/or theme with all the mini cakes. The possibilities are endless!
- Each cake could have a table number in place of a cake topper. If you are going to have seating arrangements this would be very cute and practical. You could also have the name of each cake flavor, instead of table number.
- Each small centerpiece cake could be homemade. Maybe you or someone you know is famous for their cakes, but aren’t up to the task of making a 5 tiered wedding cake! Since these cakes are smaller and don’t take as much effort to assemble and transport, someone who loves to bake and decorate could do a fantastic job on these smaller wedding cakes. Just for fun, I made a three tired wedding cake for our 3rd anniversary last year. It was very easy to make. I put very little effort into it and didn’t have the right decorating equipment or pan sizes, but it turned out quite cute. So with more effort and a few professional cake pans & decorating devices it would have looked bakery-bought. At a minimum you will need three different pan sizes for that traditional (each tier smaller)wedding cake look, round icing tubes and pastry tips to decorate with the frosting.
