Amazing Low Cost Wedding Cakes
Many couples want a much larger or elaborate wedding cake than they can afford or truly need to feed their guests. For a guest list of 150 or less, you really only need two tiers (plus one small one for your first anniversary). But such a small cake may fall short of your idea of a dream wedding cake. But you don’t have to settle for a small wedding cake! I have some great tips & tricks to share with you so you can have your dream wedding cake!
Have you heard of the money saving tip about having a small wedding cake to display and cut for pictures and then serving cheaper sheet cake to your guests? If you don’t mind having a small wedding cake this alone would be a great tip. But what can you do when you want a much larger and/or elaborate cake?
h3. You Can Have Your Cake and Eat it Too!
Get a fake cake! Yes, a fake cake! No one will know it’s a fake and as long as the bottom layer is real you can still take your traditional “cutting the cake” photos. Depending on how many guests you have and your budget, you could have one, two or three real tiers and the rest made of styrofoam, frosted and decorated to match the real layers. You can also combine the sheet cake tip with this one to really keep cost down.
h3. How?
* Find a bakery that offers half real half fake cakes. You’ll have to call around or do local Internet searches to find a bakery in you area that uses faux tiers. Bakeries may not openly list this option, so it’s best to ask them.
- Buy styrofoam tiers online. If you buy a few mock wedding cake tiers you can either make the real bottom layers yourself or ask local bakers if they would incorporate the styrofoam tiers with a cake they would make you. If you plan to have a baker incorporate the mock tiers, get a quote from a bakery you want to use before you buy the fake tiers. You will want to make sure the bakery’s charge for using the tiers isn’t too much, some may not offer much of a discount.
