Creative & Personal Guest Books
Have you bought your guest book yet? If not, read this before you buy one! If it’s is just a book with small lines where people sign and not much more, it’ll probably end up in a box on the top shelf of your closet! But if it is a creative and personal guest book, like the ones I’m talking about today, you won’t want to keep it in a box! In fact, it will become a family heirloom!
h3. Engagement Photo Guest Books
At Solorzano Photography we just started offering Engagement Photo Guest Books! They are guest book albums with couples’ favorite engagement photos. We offer both traditional signing pages and “yearbook” signing pages.
Guest enjoy looking at the couples’ engagement photos and will often chose to sign on the page adjacent to the photo they like best! If it’s done in “yearbook” style (like the above image shows) guest can write a line or two. Contact us if you wold like an Engagement Photo Guest Book (we can do your engagement photos too)!
h3. Scrapbook Guest Books
Are you a scarpbooker? You can make a beautiful scrapbook with blank sheets for guest to sign “yearbook” style. Or lined sheets, if you want to make it more traditional. Maybe a page with baby pictures of the two of you and then some growing up. Then dating and engagement photos. You can even leave some areas blank to add wedding day and honeymoon pictures! You can make it simple with just photos, or go all out with text, and all the things serious scrapbookers add to their pages. Again, your guests will love looking at the book and you’ll love having all your family and friends’ signatures and comments in a book filled with memorable photos and such.
h3. Say “Cheese!”
How about a guest book where each guest (couple or family) has their own page with a Polaroid photo of them (the guests) at the reception? Have a couple Polaroid Cameras out with directions for guests to take a picture, put it on a page in the album and write the two of you a message. Buy a nice bound journal with blank pages and photo mounting corners to put the pictures in. Have it all ready on each page, so guests can just slip their photo in and write away! Your guests will have a lot of fun with this one as well!
With a smaller crowd, you could easily set up a deal with your photographer to take a picture of the two of you with each guest (individual, couple or family groupings) and then later add the photos to the guest book. Just have the photo mounting corners in place for 4×6 or 5×7 landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) portraits. Make sure your photographer knows how you want your photos displayed—landscape or portrait. Have a sheet of paper held by the photo mounting covers (like the pictures will be) and guests can write their name on that page and write and sign around it. Having them clearly write their name on a piece of paper will make it fast and easy to put it together later (some people have illegible signatures!).
h3. A Few Tips:
* Have directions out or someone to manage the Guest Book Table. You don’t want confused guests to just skip the guest book! They might think it’s just a photo album or a memory book and not know where the guest book is!
- Make sure the pen you put out won’t bleed onto your photos! Use parchment paper or cut squares from tissue paper to keep pages separated if you are worried. Have your Guest Book Attendant or directions say to only use the pen you provided and to place the paper between the pages when they finish.
- Bring your book to the rehearsal dinner, so your closest family and friends will have a chance to sign it. They may be too busy on the day of the wedding or find there isn’t much space left (depending on the type of book you go with).
- Have the Guest Book Table in an open area at your reception. Because it will take people some time, it can get crowded, especially in a tight area.
- Have your DJ remind guests to sign the guest book. People might see a large crowd and skip the Guest Book Table, only to forget to go back later.
- If you are tight on budget the last style of guest book is best. You can buy a very nice journal for under $20.00 and the photo mount corners are very inexpensive! You can also use a digital camera and have your Guest Book Table Attendant take photos for your guests.
